How school bloggers have coped with the Big Freeze
January 7, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Happy New Year to one and all!
The start of the new term has been an extremely difficult one for most of us, but Creative Bloggers have risen to the challenge by finding new and exciting ways to communicate with their audiences. Quite a few have taken the opportunity to send me loads of support requests and requests for information – you’ve obviously got too much time on your hands
- Green Park School are running a highly successful “Build a Snowman” competition via their blog;
- Bridge Hall, and many others are using the ease of blogging to provide rapid and timely updates about closure information;
- Southwark Primary have installed the “Let It Snow” plugin (see here for installation instructions – search for “Let it snow” on the plugins page);
Perhaps most impressive of all, Heathfield have been running a live lesson for children via their blogsite using Coveritlive. It’s all the more remarkable when you consider that their blogsite only went live just before Christmas. To read David Mitchell’s blogpost about the experience, click here.
Our servers have noticed a significant spike in traffic to many schools showing how important blogsites have been in keeping parents and children involved in what’s going on at school during the freeze.
For more ideas on “Snow lessons” check out Peter Richardson’s use of Twiddla and Nicola Stables use of Wallwisher.
