Meeting the author of “Mum”

I had the opportunity to visit High Lawn Primary School today to meet the bloggers of Class 6D. I was looking forward to meeting one blogger in particular, Julia, the author of “Mum“. “Mum” was a short story that Julia wrote for herself on her class blog and it generated a remarkable number of comments, all of which Julia responded to. I took the opportunity to interview Julia, and here’s the phonecast we made.

Julia is a young writer who can produce a fictional story so well written people assume it is a real story. The readers are drawn into the created world and find themselves empathising with the characters.
Julia is also recognises the value of visiting blogs of other young writers so as to share ideas and comments. Having visited the 6D blog a number of times, I know the children are encouraged not only to write, but to read the works of others.
